General Manager

Job ID: 631520

Role details

  • Position Overview
  • Our company is seeking an accomplished General Manager to serve as the senior operational and strategic leader across our growing multi-site 3PL network. Reporting directly to the Vice President, this role is central to our company’s next chapter — a pivotal hire for a proven operator who can drive enterprise-wide performance, shape company strategy, and play an instrumental role in building a profitable, scalable organization.
  • The General Manager will act as a key strategic advisor to the VP, contributing directly to decisions that shape our company’s growth trajectory, financial health, and long-term competitive positioning. This individual will bridge high-level business strategy with ground-level operational execution — owning the full spectrum of fulfillment and logistics performance across NJ and CA facilities, while simultaneously identifying and advancing initiatives that will move our company toward sustained profitability.
  • This is not a caretaker role. Our company is looking for a builder — someone with the vision to identify opportunity, the discipline to execute, and the leadership presence to inspire a team and earn the trust of clients and partners alike.
  • Strategic Advisory Responsibilities
  • As a key strategic advisor to the Vice President, the General Manager will play an active role in shaping our company’s business beyond day-to-day operations.
  • Partner with the VP to define our company’s strategic priorities, growth objectives, and path to profitability.
  • Provide data-driven operational insight to inform executive decisions on capacity, investment, pricing, and market positioning.
  • Identify and evaluate new business opportunities, market trends, and competitive dynamics that could impact or accelerate our company’s growth.
  • Lead or contribute to high-priority strategic initiatives including facility expansion, new service line development, and organizational restructuring.
  • Serve as a key voice in executive conversations around client acquisition, retention strategy, and long-term commercial viability.
  • Translate company-level financial and growth targets into operational plans with clear milestones and accountability structures.
  • Core Operational Responsibilities
  • 1. Enterprise Operations Leadership
  • Define and execute our company’s operational strategy across all fulfillment and logistics functions, ensuring the organization is structured, staffed, and resourced to meet current demands and scale for future growth.
  • Set the operational vision and multi-year roadmap for our NJ and CA facilities.
  • Drive enterprise-wide KPI performance including on-time shipping, order cycle time, inventory accuracy, labor productivity, capacity utilization, and cost per order/unit.
  • Translate executive priorities into actionable operational plans with clear milestones, owners, and accountability structures.
  • Serve as the senior decision-maker for cross-functional operational challenges requiring rapid resolution.
  • 2. P&L Ownership & Financial Stewardship
  • Assume full ownership of the warehouse operational P&L, with accountability for cost-to-serve performance, margin health, and financial forecasting across all facilities.
  • Identify and act on cost drivers with precision — balancing service quality with operational efficiency to protect and grow margins.
  • Lead annual budgeting, rate reviews, and operational modeling to underpin sustainable financial performance.
  • Partner with Finance leadership to improve forecasting accuracy, capital planning, and labor cost management.
  • Sponsor and deliver documented cost savings initiatives with quantifiable, board-ready financial impact.
  • 3. Multi-Site Operational Excellence
  • Lead and align operations across our NJ and CA facilities, ensuring consistent service standards, operational discipline, and a unified performance culture.
  • Standardize SOPs, workflows, and governance frameworks across all sites to eliminate inconsistency and reduce risk.
  • Establish a rigorous operational rhythm — including daily standups, weekly performance reviews, and executive-level monthly reporting.
  • Oversee routing, dispatch, and fulfillment execution integrity with a zero-tolerance posture on service failures.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives that increase throughput and quality without proportional increases in labor spend.
  • 4. 3PL & Vendor Governance
  • Lead our third-party partner ecosystem with a governance-first approach, ensuring all vendors — staffing agencies, carriers, technology providers, and equipment vendors — are held to measurable performance standards.
  • Conduct structured, executive-level business reviews with key partners and enforce SLA compliance and contractual obligations.
  • Develop and manage corrective action plans tied to defined KPIs, escalating or transitioning underperforming partners as needed.
  • Drive transparency in vendor cost structures and negotiate favorable terms aligned with our company’s operational and financial objectives.
  • 5. Technology & Systems Strategy
  • Own our WMS strategy and broader technology roadmap, ensuring systems are a competitive enabler — not a constraint — to operational performance.
  • Direct WMS governance, continuous improvement, and integration with adjacent platforms and reporting infrastructure.
  • Partner with IT leadership and implementation partners to enhance inventory control logic, scanning accuracy, and operational dashboards.
  • Champion the elimination of manual workarounds through targeted system enhancements and process reengineering.
  • Evaluate and introduce emerging technologies that can meaningfully improve throughput, accuracy, or cost efficiency.
  • 6. Inventory Integrity & Regulatory Compliance
  • Maintain uncompromising standards for inventory accuracy and compliance readiness across all facilities, ensuring the organization is always audit-ready and client-compliant.
  • Sustain ≥99% inventory accuracy through cycle count governance, transaction discipline, and structured root cause analysis.
  • Ensure full compliance with FDA program requirements, client-specific mandates, and internal safety and operational standards.
  • Lead corrective and preventive action (CAPA) processes in response to compliance incidents, ensuring systemic root causes are addressed — not just symptoms.
  • 7. Client & Commercial Partnership
  • Serve as our company’s most senior operational voice with key clients, building relationships founded on transparency, trust, and consistently exceptional service delivery.
  • Lead executive client business reviews and serve as an escalation point for high-priority operational matters.
  • Align operational capacity planning with the sales pipeline and proactively support new account onboarding.
  • Partner with Business Development to assess operational feasibility, capacity requirements, and cost-to-serve for prospective accounts.
  • Contribute to pricing strategy and rate card development through data-backed operational modeling.
  • Apply a broad understanding of market trends, competitive dynamics, and organizational capabilities to inform strategic growth decisions.
  • 8. Organizational Leadership & Talent Development
  • Build, lead, and inspire a high-performing operations organization, creating a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional growth at every level.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Operations Managers, Supervisors, and cross-functional staff across NJ and CA.
  • Build leadership bench strength through structured development plans, succession planning, and performance management.
  • Establish clear expectations, measurable goals, and a cadence of feedback that drives both individual and team excellence.
  • Model our company’s values and cultivate a workplace culture that attracts and retains top operational talent.
