The Safety Specialist carries out our client company's safety program on 2nd shift to keep the plant safe, healthy, and accident-free. As the main safety contact on the shift, this role patrols and audits the plant, responds to injuries, investigates incidents, delivers safety training, and maintains OSHA and environmental compliance records.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Shift Safety and Incident Response
Serve as the safety lead on 2nd shift and conduct daily safety patrols
Deliver first aid for injuries and coordinate follow-up care
Conduct drug and alcohol testing when required
Lead accident and injury investigations and prepare reports for management and regulatory agencies
Support fire prevention and fire control management
Audits, Hazard Control, and Compliance
Audit safety policies and procedures for compliance with OSHA and state and local regulations
Conduct monthly safety audits and job safety analyses (JSA)
Inspect facilities for existing or potential hazards, set corrective actions, and follow up on completion
Write and maintain lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures for production lines
Manage safety signage, barriers, and hazard warnings
Oversee construction and contractor safety on site
Training
Deliver new hire safety orientation
Train team members on LOTO, powered industrial equipment (forklift), fire prevention, and chemical handling
Environmental, PPE, and Records
Collect annual and semi-annual stormwater samples and perform twice-weekly environmental BMP inspections
Manage PPE usage and issue monthly PPE reports
Maintain KPI and incident data, OSHA 300 log, and safety files and records
Support workers' compensation claims and help reduce lost time
Supervisory Responsibilities
No direct reports. Directs safety response on the floor during 2nd shift.

Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience
1–2 years of safety experience in a manufacturing environment
Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, LOTO, and incident investigation
Certifications and Skills
OSHA 30-Hour General Industry and First Aid/CPR certification preferred
Ability to train groups and speak clearly in front of employees and management
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, wet or humid conditions, heights, and outside weather
