The Control Engineer II supports, maintains, and improves control systems for electrode production equipment within a high- volume battery manufacturing environment. This role focuses on PLC and HMI programming, troubleshooting, and automation improvements across the mixing, coating, roll press, and slitting processes. The position supports equipment reliability, product
quality, and production efficiency through hands-on controls engineering, breakdown analysis, and collaboration with Production, Maintenance, Quality, and Engineering teams. The role primarily supports Siemens and Mitsubishi PLC systems and supports equipment installation, automation modifications, and process improvements within the Electrode Technology
team.
Responsibilities
Diagnose and repair issues related to PLCs, HMIs, servo drives, sensors, instrumentation, and other process hardware
across mixing, coating, roll press, and slitting equipment
Read, write, and modify PLC and HMI programs to improve equipment performance, reliability, and product quality
Support Siemens and Mitsubishi PLC systems and related automation infrastructure for electrode production equipment
Troubleshoot electrical and control systems using electrical and control schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams, and
technical documentation
Replace and configure sensors, control circuits, and power distribution wiring to ensure accurate system feedback and
operation
Support preventive and corrective maintenance activities for electrode production automation systems
Support installation, commissioning, and startup activities for new and modified electrode production equipment
Conduct IO checks, system testing, and validation activities to verify accurate control system operation
Support installation and integration of new technology into production lines (e.g., vision systems, lasers, inspection
equipment)
Manage PLC program versions to ensure consistency and traceability of changes
Analyze equipment breakdown data, downtime, system alarms, and operational trends to identify root cause and
improvement opportunities
Analyze and report on OEE metrics, including micro stops, breakdown maintenance, and yield, for daily production
Implement control system improvements to support equipment reliability, quality, and throughput
Complete production work orders for technology-based improvements, including PLC program changes and line
redesign, and monitor equipment performance post-improvement
Maintain accurate documentation related to PLC programs, system configurations, and troubleshooting activities
Collaborate with Engineering peers to develop and maintain standardized work procedures for PLC troubleshooting,
testing, and automated equipment controls
Provide controls training and knowledge transfer to engineers and technicians with shared responsibilities
Collaborate with Production, Maintenance, Quality, and Engineering teams to resolve control-related issues
Complete daily documentation and audits as required by the position
Follow established work instructions, safety procedures, PPE requirements, and company policies at all times
Participate in and successfully complete all required training
Maintain regular and reliable on-site attendance
Maintain cleanliness at work-site in accordance with 5S3R Standards (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain;
Right Location, Right Quantity, Right Container)
Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, or Controls Engineering, or a related field required
Experience
3+ years of experience in industrial controls, automation, or PLC programming in a manufacturing environment required
Hands-on experience with Siemens or Mitsubishi PLC systems required; experience with both preferred
Experience troubleshooting industrial automation systems in a production environment required
Experience reading and interpreting electrical schematics and control drawings required
Experience installing, modifying, analyzing, repairing, and testing production equipment preferred
Experience analyzing equipment breakdown data and OEE metrics preferred
Knowledge of battery systems or electrode processes (mixing, coating, roll press, slitting) is a strong plus

Skills
Working knowledge of industrial automation, PLC systems, HMI systems, servo drives, instrumentation, and electrical
controls
Proficiency with Siemens or Mitsubishi PLC programming and troubleshooting; familiarity with both preferred
Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and root cause analysis skills related to automated production equipment
Understanding of industrial electrical systems, control circuits, and power distribution
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, technical drawings, and equipment documentation
Familiarity with equipment design programs (2D/3D) preferred
Ability to train and transfer technical knowledge to engineers and technicians
Ability to work cross-functionally with internal teams and external vendors
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Bilingual (Korean and English) language proficiency preferred to support coordination with Korean headquarters, OEM
partners, and technical documentation review
Ability to work flexible hours as needed to support production operations
Physical Requirements
Must be able to properly and regularly utilize required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for periods of up to 12
hours, including safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, gloves, hearing protection, and other PPE as required
Must be able to repeatedly lift, push, and pull tools, materials, and equipment for periods of up to 12 hours
Must be able to repeatedly stoop, twist, bend, kneel, and reach overhead for periods of up to 12 hours
Must be able to stand, walk, and move throughout production and operational areas for extended periods
Must be able to use hands and fingers to operate tools, computers, testing equipment, and control systems
Must be able to occasionally work at heights, access equipment platforms, or work in confined or restricted spaces as
required
Must be able to sit and work at a computer for extended periods while programming, troubleshooting, or reviewing
system data
Work Environment
Work is performed within a manufacturing facility, including electrode production, clean room, office, and production
support areas
Regular interaction with electrode production equipment, including mixing, coating, roll press, and slitting systems
Regular exposure to industrial equipment, moving machinery, noise, heat, dust, and operational hazards
Work may involve handling or working in proximity to hazardous materials and regulated industrial chemicals
Strict adherence to company safety policies, clean room requirements, and PPE standards is mandatory
Fast-paced environment requiring timely response to equipment failures, production issues, and project deadlines
