  • Job Description:
  • The MEP Cost Estimator will develop and manage detailed cost estimates for major aviation projects. The position involves analyzing blueprints, performing quantity takeoffs, sourcing accurate pricing data, and preparing conceptual and detailed cost models. The Estimator will collaborate with architects, engineers, and project teams to ensure cost accuracy, reconcile estimates, and support key decisions for the redevelopment program.
  • Key Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Estimation: Analyzes blueprints, specifications, and other documents to prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates.
  • Quantification: Performs precise quantity takeoffs based on available design documents.
  • Forecasting: Develops conceptual and feasibility cost models using historical data, benchmarking, and professional experience to support early-stage cost forecasting.
  • Pricing: Sources up-to-date pricing information from databases, contractors, and suppliers to ensure accuracy and market alignment in estimates.
  • Validation: Reviews and verifies estimate takeoff data in CATO for accuracy, completeness, and project suitability.
  • Analysis: Evaluates and finalizes unit cost pricing to reflect market conditions, project logistics, and scope.
  • Benchmarking: Compares estimates against historical benchmarks and identifies cost variances or trends.
  • Collaboration: Works closely with architects, engineers, and project teams to clarify project scope and ensure alignment on cost assumptions.
  • Reconciliation: Prepares and reconciles multiple estimates, explaining cost variances and key drivers.
  • Support: Performs additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor to support project and departmental goals.

Requirements

  • Required:
  • Experience: 5–7 years of MEP estimating experience in aviation construction projects.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Quantity Surveying, or a related field; alternatively, fifteen (15) years of relevant experience without a degree.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in MS Excel, On-Screen Takeoff, and SharePoint document control.
  • Project Expertise: Experienced in preparing high-level cost estimates for the redevelopment program, including:
  • New stations
  • New Terminal B planning program
  • Landside sitework and utility projects related to the AirTrain
  • Facility improvements and relocations supporting redevelopment activities
  • Independence: Capable of working independently with Port Authority engineers to develop and reconcile cost estimates against contractor bids.
