Troubleshooting and FAQ
Fixes for common connection problems and answers to common questions.
Most problems with AI apps come down to the server address, a permission you have not granted yet, a limit, or the workspace the app is connected to. Find the message you see below. The answers to common questions are at the end of the page.
Connecting and signing in
The app cannot reach the server, or the connection fails
Use exactly https://mcp.hiretahoe.com/mcp, including https:// and /mcp. On a company network, ask your IT team to allow mcp.hiretahoe.com (it also serves the sign-in) and tahoe.workonward.com. Apps that can only run servers on your own computer cannot connect to Tahoe.
The sign-in window says your plan or workspace cannot use AI apps
Tahoe MCP needs a paid plan (such as Starter, Growth or Enterprise); trial workspaces cannot connect. The sign-in page then says “AI apps work on paid Tahoe plans. This workspace isn’t on one yet.” If a workspace stops being on a paid plan after you connected, your app shows “AI apps are available on paid Tahoe plans. Upgrade this workspace, or ask its owner to, then try again.” Tahoe MCP also stops working if an owner or admin has turned AI apps off, or allows only owners and admins to connect. Upgrade on the pricing page, or ask an owner or admin to check Settings → AI connectors.
“This app couldn’t connect to Tahoe”
Tahoe stopped the sign-in before the app was connected, and the page shows an error code. Close the window and try again from your AI app. If it keeps happening, the table says what to do.
| Error code | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
invalid_client | Tahoe could not check the app’s sign-in details. | Try again later. If it persists, contact the app’s developer. |
invalid_request | The app sent a sign-in request Tahoe could not read. | Try again, and contact the app’s developer if it keeps happening. |
unauthorized_client | This app is not allowed to sign in to Tahoe this way. | Contact the app’s developer. |
invalid_scope | The app asked for permissions Tahoe does not offer. | Try again, or contact the app’s developer. |
invalid_target | The app asked to connect to a server address Tahoe does not recognize. | Check that the app uses exactly https://mcp.hiretahoe.com/mcp. |
unsupported_response_type | The app asked to sign in in a way Tahoe does not support. | Contact the app’s developer. |
access_denied | The connection was cancelled or not allowed, so the app has no access. | Connect again if you meant to allow it. |
interaction_required | The app tried to connect without showing you the Tahoe sign-in page. | Connect again and approve the app yourself. |
server_error | Something went wrong on Tahoe’s side. | Try again in a few minutes. |
temporarily_unavailable | Tahoe cannot take new connections right now. | Try again in a minute. |
The approval page shows localhost
Apps that run on your own computer, such as Claude Code and Cursor, receive the sign-in on your machine, so Tahoe shows localhost as the address you will be sent back to, with a warning. That is expected. Continue only if you started the connection yourself just now.
You are asked to sign in again unexpectedly
A connection lasts up to 90 days if you use it at least once every 30 days. You also have to sign in again after you change or reset your password, change your email address, or are removed from the workspace. Sign in again from the app.
Tahoe MCP is under maintenance
Tahoe is doing planned work or fixing a problem. Try again a little later.
Permissions and admin settings
The app asks you to reconnect or approve more permissions
The action needs a permission you have not granted, such as sending email. Approve it on the Tahoe page that opens. If your app cannot open that page, connect again from the app and choose Recruiter or Full access. Apps that cannot ask mid-task, such as Meta Muse, name the permission instead: “This needs the permission … Disconnect Tahoe in your AI app and connect again, choosing that permission.” Sign-in and permissions
“This connection is read-only, so nothing was changed”
You connected with the Read-only preset, which can look but never changes anything. The full message is “This connection is read-only, so nothing was changed. To allow changes, reconnect Tahoe and choose Recruiter or Full access.” Disconnect the app in Settings → Connected apps, then connect again and choose Recruiter or Full access.
“Your workspace admin has turned off …”
An owner or admin has switched that capability off for AI apps, or does not allow this app. Ask them; they control it in Settings → AI connectors. Admin controls
The app asks you to connect Gmail, GitHub, LinkedIn or your ATS
That account is not connected to Tahoe yet. Open the link the app gives you, connect the account in your browser, then ask again. Connecting accounts never happens inside the AI app.
The app shows too many tools
Each tool group you switch on adds tools, and some apps work less well with many of them. Microsoft Copilot Studio limits how many tools one server can add, so Tahoe gives it the compact Core set automatically. To show fewer tools, connect again from the app and set groups you do not need to Off, or to Core instead of All. An admin can also turn off capabilities your team does not use, which removes their tools.
No Tahoe slash commands appear
Your app does not support MCP prompts. They work in Claude, Claude Code, VS Code, Cursor, Gemini CLI and Goose. Elsewhere, ask in your own words. Slash commands and skills
Credits and limits
| You see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| “Estimated N credits exceeds your limit of M” | The ceiling on that action is doing its job. Nothing was charged. | Raise the limit in your request (“up to 30 credits”), or ask for less. |
| “Today’s assistant budget is used” | Your workspace’s daily credit limit for AI apps is reached. | Wait until tomorrow (midnight UTC), or ask an owner or admin to raise it. |
| “Needs X credits; you have Y” | Not enough credits. Nothing was charged. | Top up in Settings → Credits, or ask an owner or admin for a payment link. |
| “Daily search limit reached” | Your workspace loaded 100 paid search pages today. | Pages already loaded stay free to reopen. Try new pages tomorrow. |
| “Another GitHub search is running” | One GitHub search runs at a time in each workspace. | Wait for it to finish, or cancel it. |
| “Too many calls this minute. Retry in N seconds.” | The connection reached a per-minute rate limit. | Wait N seconds. Most apps retry on their own. |
Credits and limits lists every price and limit.
Error codes
When a tool cannot do what was asked, it returns an error with a code, a message, whether trying again can help, and sometimes retry_after_s, the seconds to wait first. Your app usually explains the error in plain words. A refused request charges nothing.
| Code | What it means | Can retry? | What to do |
|---|---|---|---|
not_found | Not found, or not visible to you. It may be in another workspace, or, for a job, created by another recruiter. | No | Check which workspace the app is connected to in Settings → Connected apps. |
invalid_input | A value in the request was not valid. The message names the field and the allowed values. | After a fix | Your app usually corrects it and tries again. If not, rephrase your request. |
not_allowed | Your admin turned this off for AI apps, the workspace is not on a paid plan, the connection is read-only, or Tahoe switched it off for a while. | Only when Tahoe switched it off for a while | Follow the message: ask an owner or admin, upgrade, or reconnect with Recruiter. |
insufficient_scope | The action needs a permission you have not granted. | After you approve | Approve it in the Tahoe window that opens, or disconnect and connect again with that permission. |
role_forbidden | Your role in this workspace does not allow this. | No | Ask an owner or admin. |
credit_ceiling_exceeded | The estimate is above the most the action may spend. Nothing was charged. | With a higher ceiling | Allow more credits (“up to 30 credits”), or ask for less. |
insufficient_credits | Not enough credits. The message gives what is needed and your balance. Nothing was charged. | After a top-up | Top up in Settings → Credits, or ask an owner or admin for a payment link. |
mcp_budget_exceeded | Your workspace’s daily credit limit for AI apps is used. | Tomorrow | Wait until midnight UTC, or ask an owner or admin to raise it. |
subscription_required | This needs an active Tahoe plan. | No | Choose a plan, or ask the workspace owner. |
plan_upgrade_required | This needs a higher plan, such as Growth for phone pre-screening and team invites. | No | Upgrade the plan. |
resume_locked | The résumé’s free window has ended. Unlocking it costs 50 credits. | After unlocking | Ask the app to unlock it, if you want to spend the credits. |
limit_reached | A rate limit or a daily limit was reached, such as 100 paid search pages a day. | Yes, after retry_after_s | Wait and try again. For daily limits, try the next day. |
busy | The same request, another GitHub search or two paid actions are already running. | Yes, after retry_after_s | Wait for the other work to finish. |
conflict | The item changed somewhere else at the same time. The message shows the current values. | After checking | Check the current values, then ask again. |
connection_required | Gmail, GitHub, LinkedIn or your ATS is not connected to Tahoe. | After connecting | Open the link, connect the account in your browser, then ask again. |
unavailable | Tahoe or this feature is unavailable for the moment. No credits were used. | Usually | Try again shortly. The message says if a feature is switched off. |
reauthorize | Your Tahoe connection has ended, for example after a disconnect or a password change. | After you reconnect | Reconnect Tahoe in your AI app. |
Meta Muse
- Muse is available in the US and Canada only.
- Muse cannot ask for more permissions later. If it says a tool needs a permission, disconnect and connect again, choosing that permission or Recruiter.
- Muse gets a curated set of 30 tools. Revealing contact details, sending email, publishing jobs, phone screens, and the GitHub, LinkedIn, ATS and admin tools are not available in Muse.
Finding things
“Not found, or not visible to you”
The item may not exist, may belong to another workspace, or, for a job, may have been created by another recruiter. Check which workspace the app is connected to in Settings → Connected apps. For jobs, ask for “every job in the workspace” instead of only yours.
Who applied to the Field Coordinator job in Columbus, Ohio this week?
The app answers “Not found, or not visible to you.” Jordan checks Settings → Connected apps and sees that ChatGPT is connected to the Kestrel Labs Seoul workspace, while the Field Coordinator job is in Kestrel Labs US. Jordan picks Kestrel Labs US in the Workspace column and asks again. The applicants appear.
Frequently asked questions
Does Tahoe MCP cost extra?
No. It is included on every paid plan. Actions cost the same credits as in the dashboard, and reading is free.
Which AI app should I use?
Claude and ChatGPT have the fullest support today: approval prompts, interactive cards and sign-in. Gemini works with personal accounts in the US and through Gemini Enterprise. Microsoft Copilot works through Copilot Studio, with a compact set of tools. Meta Muse works in the US and Canada, with a curated set of tools. Connect your AI app
Can the app spend my credits without me knowing?
Not silently. Every paid action carries a ceiling that you see in your app’s approval prompt, and reports what it charged. Your workspace also sets daily limits.
Can it email candidates on its own?
Only when you ask, and your app asks you to approve before anything is sent. It can only email people already in your workspace, within your admin’s limits.
Can Tahoe read my email?
No. Tahoe can only send from your connected Gmail. To check for replies, add your AI app’s own Gmail connector. What you can ask
Can I use it in Korean?
Yes. Ask in Korean. Searches are translated into English for matching, because profile data is in English, and your original wording is kept.
Can I work in two workspaces?
Yes, with two connections. Each connection works in one workspace. Add Tahoe twice in your app, or move a connection in Settings → Connected apps.
Can I automate Tahoe from my own code?
MCP is for people working in an AI app, signed in with their own account. For system-to-system integrations that run without a person, use the Tahoe API.
Is my data used to train AI models?
Tahoe does not train AI models on your data, and does not sell it. How your AI app uses conversation data is set by that app’s terms and your organization’s settings. Privacy and security
